21 Million Views on DEMON RESURRECTION YouTube Channel...

It's been some time since I posted about DEMON RESURRECTION, so here's the latest news...

The DEMON RESURRECTION YouTube channel recently passed twenty-one million views – the exact number as I write this is 21,693,248 – and the channel now has over fourteen thousand subscribers.

I realize these numbers are not in the Beyoncé range, but they're still pretty impressive for a low budget horror film from twelve years ago, and it may suggest that there's still enough interest in the film to warrant a new release – which brings me to my next piece of news...

Over the past several months, I've been working on a new version of the film, upscaling it from standard definition (720x480) to high def (1920x1080) and from standard screen (4x3) to widescreen (16x9). I've also been working to improve picture quality, to make it as sharp, detailed and vibrant as possible, while also fixing some of the weaker optical effects, refining the edit and, in general, sanding down as many of the original film's rough edges as possible.

Obviously, upscaling an SD film to HD is never going to give you as good an end result as shooting in HD to begin with, but that wasn't an option for us when we were making the film way back in 2004, and I've been pleasantly surprised by how well the upscaled version of the film is turning out. It's certainly going to be a a great improvement over any version of the film released so far.

I'm hoping to make this newly remastered version of DEMON RESURRECTION available for streaming online via YouTube, Amazon and VHX before Halloween of this year, and I'll be posting here as soon as it's up.

I'd also like to release the remastered HD version of the film on disc. The film had a standard def release on DVD many years ago (a few copies of which are still available) but the film hasn't yet been put out on Blu-ray. Issuing the film on Blu-ray would involve a fair amount of expense, and I've been considering mounting a Kickstarter or IndieGogo campaign to raise money for such a release – offering some nice perks in return for a donation, of course. I'll keep you posted.

Zisi's B-Movie Emporium Reviews DEMON RESURRECTION

Christopher Zisi, who reviews horror and exploitation films on his "Emporium for B Movies" blog, was good enough to take a look at DEMON RESURRECTION recently and had some nice things to say about the film. Some  excerpts:

An over-the-top, gory horror film... INSEMINOID meets THE DEVIL'S RAIN... Gore, nudity, disembowelment, a monster baby, and a neat Necronomicon-like book... a perfect movie for this blog.... 

William Hopkins' direction reminded me a bit of Lucio Fulci. In some ways, this film resembles that great Italian horror of the 70s and 80s... Not for the squeamish, DEMON RESURRECTION will deliver on scares, gore, and surprises. Ms. Golightly is terrific as a woman, seemingly defeated, who pulls it together to do anything she has to in order to save herself and her friends. Find this film and add it to your DVD collection.

Laurie Miller Talks About DEMON RESURRECTION

Continuing our series of posts marking the tenth anniversary of the production of DEMON RESURRECTION, here's actor and stuntwoman, Laurie Miller, who plays Kate in the film, in an interview conducted in the summer of 2007.

Bits of this interview can be seen in the "Making of" documentary that appears on the DEMON RESURRECTION Special Edition DVD, but the full interview has not been seen till now.
Much has transpired in the years since this interview was done, and it's probably safe to say that Laurie, who is now married with children, is in a much different place in 2014 than she was when she was on-set in 2004 or doing this sit-down in 2007. But Laurie was a key person in the film's cast and crew and her talent and energy were vital to its success, so I felt this longer interview would be of interest to the film's fans and should be seen.

My thanks to Laurie for her great work on the film. I hope this interview brings back good memories.

"Demon Resurrection delivers," says Brandon Early on "Movies at Dog Farm"

On his "Movies at Dog Farm" website, writer Brandon Early covers horror, sci-fi, cult and exploitation films of decades past but usually doesn't review new releases. He made an exception for DEMON RESURRECTION and I'm glad he did. Some excerpts from his review: 

"Demon Resurrection ultimately delivers on the promise of the set-up. Once it finally gets rolling, it's a non-stop gallop to the end. The gory set pieces and choreographed action never lets up... 

It made me feel like a kid again, a horror loving kid still unsophisticated enough to look past the shortcomings as long as the movie ultimately delivers the goods. Demon Resurrection delivers. I felt as though I'd happened upon a particularly good late night horror flick on TNT MonsterVision. I didn't keep track of the numbers for the obligatory Drive-In Totals, but I'll guarantee Demon Resurrection has enough general Horror Fu on display to make it a worthy addition to your watch list."

How Much is That Zombie in the Window?

If you're shopping for copies of the Special Edition DVD of DEMON RESURRECTION on Amazon.com, you have a choice. You can buy it from the producers of the film, Feature Resources Inc, for $12.99, plus shipping. Or you can buy it from one of several other sellers offering the disk, including one who's selling it for $117.35, and another who has it priced to go at a mere $3,710.99, plus shipping...

"Why pay less?"

"Buy now and get this lovely tie absolutely free!"

Now, as the writer and director of the film, probably no one has a higher regard for it than I do, but even I think that three thousand is a little much. (And no free shipping?)

I assume what's going on here is similar to the incident described in this article on digitaltrends.com, where automatic pricing algorithms used by competing Amazon sellers ran the price for a genetics textbook up over twenty million dollars. The DEMON RESURRECTION DVD hasn't gotten up into that lofty price range yet, but we're off to a promising start.

On the other hand, as seller pricing on Amazon.com  can apparently fluctuate pretty wildly, the nice price currently being offered by the good people at "X-Clusive Store" of New Jersey could begin to drop at any time. So if you're absolutely intent on spending $3,710.99 for a copy of the DEMON RESURRECTION DVD, you should probably act now.

Or better yet, send the three grand to me. I'm pretty sure I can get you two copies for that money.

Caroline Adams on DEMON RESURRECTION - A 10th Anniversary Flashback

There's a limit to how much you can fit onto a DVD, even a Special Edition one. And so this interview with the lovely and talented Caroline Adams, which couldn't be squeezed onto the DEMON RESURRECTION Special Edition disc when it was released in 2010, has remained unseen till now.

Caroline, who makes a brief appearance in DEMON RESURRECTION as Kim, one of two archaeologists who come to a grisly end, also donned mask and robe to play one of the film's horde of resurrected dead.

Continuing my series of special posts to mark the ten year anniversary of the production of DEMON RESURRECTION, here's Caroline chatting with yours truly in 2006, looking back on the making of the film and describing the ups and downs of being a "lead demon."

Incidentally, for all those filmmakers who, after watching this, decide they must have Caroline as the star of their next film, I regret to report that in the years since this interview was done, Ms. Adams left show business for a career in medicine. I suppose she might be lured back for the right role, but it would probably have to be something that doesn't involve wearing a rubber mask.

Frank Cilla on DEMON RESURRECTION - A 10th Anniversary Flashback

In September of 2014, it will be a full ten years since DEMON RESURRECTION went into production, and in preparation for this anniversary, producer Frank Cilla and I will be stepping up our efforts to promote the film and get it out to a wider audience. I'll also be posting online selections from the trove of promotional and supplementary material we prepared for the film back when it was originally released.

Some of this stuff has, until now, only been available on the Special Edition DVD, so it'll be new to those who have only seen our film via online streaming. With that to look forward to, now we all have something to live for.

My Cover Art for the DVD Release of a Gory Foreign Horror Film...

Here's some artwork I did recently for the cover of the U.S. DVD release of a rather extreme foreign horror film.

The illustration is in shockingly bad taste, of course, and I strongly disapprove of the depicted misuse of hammers and chicken wire. But I admit I enjoyed using Photoshop to try to get the lurid look of the old pulp magazine covers and horror movie posters.
