Outpost Zeta Reviews DEMON RESURRECTION...

Justin Lewis, genre film maven and resident critic at review site OUTPOST ZETA, recently turned his attention to my film, DEMON RESURRECTION, and had some kind things to say about it...

"Demon Resurrection is a good example of a film that wants to honor its 1970s and early 1980s horror roots without mindlessly aping the surface look of those films. Too often modern ‘grindhouse’ movies think they can throw some digital film damage over their shoddily made work and call it retro. Demon Resurrection takes its plot and a few visual cues from films like Burial Ground (1981) and The Blind Dead movies but it is not interested in just copying them under the guise of homage..."

He cites Will McDonald's performance as the evil cult leader:

"Toth is a fun villain, he is the kind of robe-wearing Satan worshiping baddie that is just as much of a delight to watch as it is to see him get his comeuppance. He meets his end in a fashion that wouldn’t be out of place in an E.C. horror comic."

Laurie Miller, our Dr. Kate, is also praised...

"Demon Resurrection isn’t afraid to put its characters through the wringer, and throughout the runtime, I was not exactly sure who was going to make it to the end. I did really like Laurie Miller as Kate.... I thought she made a believably frightened and desperate character and I found myself rooting for her to survive her ordeals with the undead."

Finally, he says DEMON RESURRECTION "gives birth to some enjoyable horror."

It's good to see that, even all all the years that have passed since it was made, DEMON RESURRECTION can still get the occasional good review.

My sincere thanks to Justin for all the kind words :)

Demon Resurrection is "a good, old-fashioned horror movie," says Beasts in Human Skin...

The resident critic at Beasts in Human Skin, a website devoted to grindhouse/exploitation fare, recently turned his attention to DEMON RESURRECTION and had some nice things to say about the film. Some excerpts:
Demon Resurrection is different.  First of all, it’s not an ’80s slasher clone. It’s more like an Italian zombie flick from the 1970s with Satanic cults, supernatural forces and creeping undead….
It has a slower pace (in a good way) interlaced with frantic, chaotic moments of gratuitous gore. In some ways it reminds me of Lucio Fulci’s films. It’s like if Fulci was told to rewrite and direct Rosemary’s Baby and he was like, “Screw this exploration of the psychological torment and transformation of the demon-child’s mother crap. This shit needs zombies and titties and blood.” …and I would agree.
Demon Resurrection is a surprisingly solid supernatural horror. Director William Hopkins is to be commended for creating a true homage to the horror movies of the past instead of some shitty, campy retro-slasher. What he has managed to resurrect… is a good, old-fashioned horror movie full of gore and boobies, which are two things that I like very much. It’s an impressive piece of amateur film making. This is only Hopkins’ second film, and I sincerely hope we see more from him in the future.
My thanks to Beasts in Human Skin for the kind words. I also sincerely hope we see more from me in the future : )

"Demon Resurrection is just plain great," says KnifedinVenice.com...

DEMON RESURRECTION just received what may be its best review yet from writer and exploitation film expert David Louden (writing as John Baxter) on his blog, KnifedinVenice.com. It's a four star (or four pentagram) rave. Some excerpts:
"Part Fulci’s Zombi, part Night of the Living Dead, yet it has enough style, strength, confidence and composure to stand alone as an incredibly well constructed, not to mention enjoyable, piece of genre fiction...
The film has the look of classic horror without coming across as showy or forced... The set pieces... are not only extremely well choreographed but are also tightly shot, sharply performed and beautifully balanced.... A masterful demonstration of skill mixed with style and patience as the tension is allowed to build with the gradual turning of the screw....
There are some excellent performances on display, Will McDonald (as Toth) has a wonderful screen presence... Damian Ladd (as John) and Bashir Solebo (Denton) step up and deliver commanding, powerful performances... but the stand-out is Alexis Golightly... she’s a daring and gifted performer... a mesmerising display of talent and dedication....
Demon Resurrection is just plain great. Extremely well constructed, beautifully paced, superbly acted and hugely entertaining."
I've been a fan of David's "Knifed in Venice" blog for some time now and have always been impressed with the excellence of his writing and his extensive knowledge of exploitation cinema. So it's especially gratifying to have DEMON RESURRECTION receive such an enthusiastic endorsement from him. I'm sure everyone involved in the production greatly appreciates his kind words and he has my sincere thanks.

Terrorphoria Reviews DEMON RESURRECTION

Reviewer Ben Daniels over at the Terrorphoria website seems to like DEMON RESURRECTION. Some excerpts from his review:
"I recently received a copy of Demon Resurrection to review, and although it's a bit rough around the edges I was pleasantly surprised!... The first half... harkens back to the era of 1970's and early 80's horror. I have to give a special nod to Will McDonald who plays the cult leader "Toth". He totally steals the show in every scene he's in with an acting style reminiscent of Ernest Borgnine in The Devil's Rain... totally awesome.... Demon Resurrection is a fun movie.... It's totally obvious that everyone involved in making this movie... was really passionate about making a horror movie and it totally shines through.... An honest, entertaining, and worthwhile indie movie waiting to be found."
