THE CHANGELING: Bathtubs, Bouncing Balls and Commander Kor

In this episode, we take a look at THE CHANGELING, the 1980 Canadian film that somehow made it onto Martin Scorsese's "scariest films of all time" list.

In their spoiler-laden discussion of the film, hosts Carey Vickers and Aaron M. Poe, and filmmaker William Hopkins, seek answers to two key questions:  (1) What exactly is Mr. Scorsese smoking? and (2) How would WE change The Changeling?

Other films and TV shows mentioned in the course of the discussion include ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968); THE EXORCIST (1973); THE OMEN (1976); THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE (1973); THE HAUNTING (1963); THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS (1971); THE OLD DARK HOUSE (1932); THE NIGHT STRANGLER (1973); COLUMBO: BY DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT (1974); STAR TREK: ERRAND OF MERCY (1967); and THE FLYING NUN (1967).

LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH: Ghosts, Gaslight and Goya Beans...

In this episode of A PODCAST FROM BENEATH, we look back at one of cinema's best ghost stories... LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH, director John D. Hancock's 1971 thriller about a hippy vampire houseguest who plans to stay. Forever.

In his book, DANSE MACABRE, Stephen King listed LSJTD as a personal favorite, and if you're familiar with King's work, it's easy to see why he'd like it, and how it may have influenced his own writing, especially SALEM'S LOT.

William Hopkins, director of DEMON RESURRECTION, joins APFB hosts, Carey Vickers and Aaron M Poe for a discussion of this moody, atmospheric thriller which features beautiful location cinematography, an innovative synthesizer score, and an outstanding performance by Zohra Lampert as Jessica.

Other films mentioned in the course of the discussion include GASLIGHT (1944), ROSEMARY'S BABY (1968), THE INNOCENTS (1961), DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS (1971), DRACULA (1931) and ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE (2013).

BLOODBEAT: Huskies, Hunters & Hygge...

I recently joined Carey Vickers and Aaron M Poe in a discussion of a bad movie everybody seems to like: "Bloodbeat", the oddly appealing 1983 slasher about an orgasm-inducing Samurai ghost stalking hunters in Wisconsin. Along the way, we touch on such bad movie masterpieces as "Manos: The Hands of Fate", "Spookies" and "The Room." (Mentioned in passing is Billy Ballard's deeply felt dislike of Danzig's "Verotica".)

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: A Discussion of Romero's Original Trilogy

Few films have left an impression on me as deep and lasting as George A Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) and its sequel, DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978), so I was delighted when Carey Vickers and Aaron M Poe invited me back to their podcast to discuss those films and the impact they've had on indie filmmaking, the horror genre, and on our culture as a whole. Along the way we touch on films that may have inspired Romero's work, as well as films and television shows that were inspired or influenced by it, including my own film, DEMON RESURRECTION (2008).

THE OMEN Roundtable with DEMON RESURRECTION director William Hopkins

Carey Vickers and Aaron Poe brought Erik K Myers and myself back to A Podcast From Beneath to tackle another 70s horror franchise, THE OMEN.

Our discussion covers the admirable first film, the passable second film, the misguided third film, the hilarious fourth film, and the abysmal 2006 remake. Along the way, we touch on David Seltzer's novelization, lapses in logic in the first film's script, the antichrist's unusual taste in statuary in OMEN III, and Robert Foxworth's hairdo. Enjoy :)

DEMON RESURRECTION director William Hopkins interviewed by Carey Vickers on A PODCAST FROM BENEATH...

I had the pleasure of speaking with horror movie podcaster Carey Vickers on his A PODCAST FROM BENEATH show recently, and had a great time chatting about my film, DEMON RESURRECTION – which went into production almost 15 years ago. My thanks to Carey for all his kind words about the film, and for giving me the opportunity to reminisce about it. With his great skill as an interviewer, he manages to make me sound almost coherent :) You can listen to the interview here: https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-t6zi4-b75c1b Thanks, Carey! – Bill Hopkins
